Situated in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, 51
km off Gorakhpur, Kushinagar is the divine land where
Lord Buddha had chosen to free himself from the cycles
of death and life. A very important place for Buddhist
pilgrim, It was once a celebrated center of the Malla
kingdom. The Stupas found here dates back to 230 BC-AD
413.
A very large statue of Buddha, carved on a single piece
of red sandstone is situated here. The great Mauryan
Emperor, Ashoka, built this statue. All three famous
Chinese scholars Fa Hien, Huen Tsang, and I-tsing visited
Kushinagar, which is a part of the famous Buddhist trail
encompassing Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Nepal.

many important remnants of the main site such as the
