Situated at an altitude of 1250 m above the sea level
is the small hill station of Kalimpong, lying in between
Gangtok and Siliguri. The name, Kalimpong, has three different
origins. One, it means the place where the local tribesmen
gathered to organize field sports, second, it takes it's
name from the Bhutanese king's minister's stronghold and
third, it is named after Kaulim, a fibrous plant found
in abundance in this region. You can also add a name to
this place after your visit with Tour Packages for Kalimpong.
Kalimpong along with being a beautiful Hill Station
is also famous as being a peaceful one too. The serene
and calm beauty of the place is further heightened by
the scenic beauty offered by the panoramic view of the
Kanchenjunga and Himalayan peaks having a soothing affect
on those basking in its glory. The popular viewpoints
of the place are Durpin Dara and Deoro Hill. Kalimpong
was ruled by Bhutan for 155 years and was appropriated
by the British only in 1865 after which it became an
important centre of wool trade.
Buddhism, Christianity and Hinduism all walk hand in
hand at Kalimpong. Temples, Monks, Missionaries all
together adds more galore to the beauty of the place.
Peacefulness of the place should not however be mistaken
for dullness. The bazaar is buzzing with colorful attractive
items that lure the people both local and outside to
come and shed some weight off from their purses. Buddhist
thankas, hand beaten silver, Bhutanese weaves, Chinese
lamps, Lepcha daggers, masks and a lot more are all
displayed for you to take back as souvenirs of this
magical place on Tour Packages for Kalimpong.
