The city that was once popular for its jewels is now known
as the ruined city of India. Lying just 11 kms from the
capital city of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad, Golconda is
now only famous for it's much talked about fort that is
in shambles today. From 1364-1512, Golconda was the capital
of the Bahmani Kingdon and after that it became the capital
of Muslim Sultanate of Golconda till the time Aurangzab,
a Mughal Emperor, captured it in 1687, and that saw the
gradual descend of Golconda.
Golconda got its name from 'Golla Konda', which in
Telgu means the Shepherd's Hill and has an interesting
tale attached to it. It is believed that a shepherd
boy came across an idol on the rocky hill of 'Mangalavaram'.
As the incident reached the Kakatiya King, who was ruling
at that time, a mud fort was built around that holy
spot and after nearly 200 years, the Bahamini rulers
took possession of the fort. Later during early 16th
century the first three Qutub Shahi Leaders expanded
the fort into a colossal granite structure stretching
5 kms in circumference. The glory of this fort however
ended with the envasion of Aurangzeb into the place
who left almost completely destroyed and can be witnessed
on Tours to Golconda.
Today the name Fort is synonymous to Golconda as people
from all over the world who come to visit India do go

is many ways and can be explored by you on the Tours
